Gus Kenworthy’s Coffee Table Book Club

Olympic Freestyle Skier Gus Kenworthy is expanding his brand and giving back at the same time by taking another one of his passion points and putting it to good use: coffee table books. First it was Olympic Champion, then actor, and now book club curator. Way to go, Gus!

Turns out that Gus is self-admittedly obsessed with coffee table books so he’s launched a book club completely focused on his favorite picks, month by month. But this book club, which is subscription based, also donates books to LGBTQ+ youth in states where books are banned.

Gus Kenworthy’s Coffee Table Book Club.

The Book Club is powered by Allstora, which is an independent bookstore with “stories that welcome us all,” and was founded by RuPaul along with author and drag performer Eric Crevini, as well as actor Adam Powell. Note that Allstora several book clubs curated various people of all flavors, along with tons of featured authors. I just love it.

Each month Gus picks a new coffee table book, all of which are his favorites:

  • The debut was “Andy Warhol Polaroids” in March, I believe his ultimate fav

  • April was “Post Truth” by George Byrne

  • May was just announced and is a Keith Haring book to showcase the commitment Gus has to the AIDS/HIV Life Cycle fundraiser (to also honor Keith)

I love the initiative because it’s great inspiration for how each of us can give back in a way that is uniquely us, based on our own passion. Gus loves coffee table books, so he found a way to turn a beloved collectible into a showcase and then funnel that into a charity.

We should each discover ways to do that, in our own way. What’s your experience? JIM
