Small Business Spotlight: Andrew’s Honey on the UWS in NYC
Source: Andrew’s Honey
This past Saturday was a glorious late-winter day in New York City so my husband and I spent the day walking around the neighborhood, popping into little boutiques here and there. We stumbled upon a store with a big sign that said, “Local Honey,” and we literally thought to ourselves, “well how local can local be!?!?”
Well it turns out that local is pretty darn local. The store is Andrew’s Honey, and it’s this entrepreneur’s first retail location after having done business via tents and trucks at farmer’s markets and such.
The store is all about honey and products with honey and the concept is hyper-local as in honey that is made on neighborhood rooftops. You can literally buy honey that’s made right on top of the building presumably next door!
Talk about local business!
Andrew’s Honey was created by Andrew Cote, author of “Honey and Venom, Confessions of an Urban Beekeeper” and President of the New York Beekeepers Association. If you’d like to hear more about Andrew and his business, here’s a (rather long) video:
In a brand world where it’s harder and harder to differentiate, perhaps going hyper local is one avenue, right on Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, NYC in zip code 10023.
Plus a little known fact that perhaps you already knew … a friend just told me that local honey helps with local allergies because the pollen is so localized. Wow! We need to weave that into the messaging! Makes sense completely.
Way to go, Andrew. I’m now both a customer and a neighbor! And a fan too BTW.
What’s your experience? JIM
