Continuing to Celebrate, Honor, and Learn #BlackHistoryMonth

Source: NYU

As Black History Month 2025 comes to a close and as I continue to read more about it, I’m reminded and inspired that this should not just be one month of remembrance but instead an ongoing commitment to celebrate, honor, and learn about the contributions that have been made and will continue to be made by the Black community here in America (and hence globally).

As has been said, Black History is American History.

So as a citizen, human, friend, colleague, professor at NYU, and marketer … just how do I do that? How do we do that? After absorbing a few articles, here are some things I have learned from the best and brightest.

Keep Learning … keep digging into Black History and Black Culture and how it has shaped our society and how it will shape our society moving forward. Keep reading, keep searching for information, and when an interesting article pops up in your feed, dig in! Knowledge is the key to understanding and growth.

Support Black Arts … arts, entertainment, and popular culture is rich with Black contributions so continue to support them in anyway authentic and possible. Buy that ticket and click that play button!

Share Black Voices … when you read something and learn something from a Black thought leader, then repost it and share it on social media so that your network can read it and share it too. It says a lot when you do that and then your network can do the same. The impact will be felt.

Support Black-Owned Businesses … it’s been said that entrepreneurs are the back-bone of the American economy and so too are Black-Owned businesses. Show them your love, support, and commitment to keep them thriving. They are filled with new ideas and new services.

Be an Ally … lots of people talk about being an ally, but each of us has to turn that talk into action in our own way. Figuring out YOUR way is the best way!

All of the above will just simply make us better. None of us can be a great marketer without a deep understanding of the many people that make up our world. Same goes with being a teacher, friend, colleague, person, etc.

Let’s keep learning and honoring … There are many ways. What’s your experience? JIM
