PCs are Products, Apple is a Brand

In honor of Steve Jobs, I am re-living a prior blog post which was actually a feature article in BrandWeek not too long ago.

My premise is that PCs (and now smart phones and tablets too) are just products.  Apple, however, is a brand.  You can read it here.

It's hard to have a relationship with any 'ole laptop.  But Apple?  It's with me all the time, it's a big part of my life, and it keeps me connected to everyone else in my life.  But it makes me feel like I know what's going on.

That's because Steve Jobs created a user experience that was intuitively obvious.  And as a result, he created a brand experience that became infectious.  One that has infiltrated pop culture, whether you are a fan or not.

My favorite quote from all of the Steve Jobs tributes this week?  He is an iCon!  Yes indeed.

We will miss you, Mr. Jobs.  As I stated yesterday ... you are the CEO who has had the biggest impact on my personal life, ever.

What's your experience?  Jim
