Univision #1

In an unbelievable sign of the times, those of us in marketing and media got a game-changing piece of news this week regarding television programming.

For the first time ever, Univision (the Latin/Hispanic television network) was the #1 network for viewership ... beating out the likes of NBC, CBS, ABC, and FOX.

Now that's a wow.  I remember the day, back when I was in marketing at J&J, when we first used to talk about the emerging Hispanic market (and it's beena topic ever since).  Not so emerging anymore!

An unprecedented development, something most would have never fully predicted so soon.  Although truthfully, none of us should be surprised given the changes in the makeup of our society as well as the continual evolution of what entertainment we consume.  And the sports!

Now I am sure that there are many people who could and will cut the data differently to tell a different story ... but either way this is quite a moment in our collective history.

Personally, I love it.  It adds a layer of excitement to our industry, and a proof point that we are always changing.  And should put the other "regular" networks on notice for how they should be thinking about changing and improving their programming.  From entertainment to news to sports.

As Univision so perfectly stated, "Numero Uno is the new Number One."

What's your experience?  Jim.
