Back Packs Don't "Work"
I'll admit it ... I follow fashion trends and generally participate as well. For the guys this season, there seems to be three stand-outs for me that are worth thinking about.
Khakis. They are back, full force. Much more tapered, much "skinnier," and much more colorful than their prior counterparts, but super comfortable to wear. I've got a few pair already, and honestly they are more fitting than my jeans. Thought I'd never say that, but I am totally into khakis this year.
The Statement Scarf. C'mon, don't be afraid to wear a scarf. If you go to Paris, all the guys are wearing them, so why not here. Indoors, outdoors, all the doors. The trend this season is even bigger than in prior years, with big bulky scarfs with cool patterns fitting us all so warmly well. I've been here for years now, so I'm psyched that this keeps getting bigger and bolder.
The Back Pack. Now this one I'll admit that I don't really get, other than it's probably much healthier for your back to carry a back pack than a messenger bag or a briefcase. Back packs are everywhere this season, including the commuter lines and offices. I just don't like the look ... it looks a bit "immature" to me for some reason, and a bit sloppy. I guess I don't mind them if they are leather or interesting, but the "back-to-school" variety in the board room or with a suit honestly just doesn't cut it for me. Leave those back packs for the school kids, please. But that's me. I've got a vintage Coach one from years back that I'm pulling out of retirement this weekend so I'll give it a try, but I'm totally not sure about this one. I pass on this trend.
Fashion is fun, don't be afraid to give it a try. You don't have to be a fashionista or a runway model to spice up your look every season. It won't scare people off, and in fact it just might help to build your brand.
