Burger King and "Joker"
Talk about perfect timing!
If you’re at all familiar with the (wildly popular) movie Joker, then you know the famous scene where the lead character is “dancing” on a very long and steep staircase in New York City. Turns out that the actual staircase where the scene was filmed is in the Bronx, one of the boroughs of NYC.
The stairs have become so popular that tourists go out of their way to go to this particular neighborhood for IG selfies. Not sure how they find this particular spot, but they do! Lots of them.
To acknowledge the wear and tear on the neighborhood, Burger King decided to gift local residents free burgers in conjunction with the DVD release of the movie. Timed perfectly to the Golden Globes where the lead actor was up for the best actor award. Bam!
And guess what, he won! Many thought he was an obvious choice, me too. Hence, the DVD release timed to the Golden Globes when publicity would be sky high. Enter Burger King too.
Brilliant move. Perfectly timed. There are no coincidences in marketing.
