"Ain't No Stopping Us Now" #MusicMonday

Given my playlists on Spotify, I hear the song “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now” at least once a week. Heavy rotation. So of course I was all smiles when I heard folks from Philadelphia dancing in the streets in celebration a week or so ago. I knew the song was a bit of a mantra for the local baseball team, but I had no idea the history behind the song. And now that I do understand the song’s origin, it makes it all that much more inspiring to me.

I’ve since learned that “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now” is a product of The Sound of Philadelphia which was a musical movement that informed much of the music scene of the 1970’s. And the song in particular was (and continues to be) a message of hope among Black people who had been held back and longed to move forward. “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now!”

You can read more about the history of the song in an article here.

Seems timely once again this year ...

“There's been so many things that's held us down
But now it looks like things are finally comin' around
I know we've got, a long long way to go
And where we'll end up, I don't know.”

Every time I listen to this song moving forward, I’m going to think about it quite differently. And it’s now on even heavier rotation.

What’s your experience? JIM
