Husbands of Target

I get it…it’s funny. And I did laugh at it myself, until I thought about it a bit. I’m talking about the “Husbands of Target” video that is making the social media rounds. It’s a spoof video, presumably done by a guy or two to poke fun at their lives. Ala “Real Housewives of (insert city here.”

The premise is that this group of guys form a “support group” in a Target parking lot where they bond and spend time while their wives are inside Target shopping. It’s content and influencer marketing converging. Take a look:

It’s meant to poke fun and be light-hearted so I’m not going to rain on any parade.

But the more I thought about it, the less I liked it. For me personally. I particularly didn’t like the part where the dads put the kids in another car with a security camera so that they could watch them from afar.

Not going to get overly dramatic here, because I did laugh out loud. BUT I’m not sure I’m loving how the video portrays husbands and dads as sorta kinda just a bit…well…dumb. Completely controlled by their spouses. And they don’t really care after the kids when no one is looking. Not sure I’m in love with it TTYTT.

But in the spirit of complete comedy, I did laugh. And it was done by dads themselves, so that makes it proper. But I would have loved at least one nod to being a good husband and dad. Just one.

How do you feel? What’s your experience? JIM
