Defending SGN
SGN: Some Good News
When I first wrote about SGN from John Krasinski, I applauded the effort. Standing ovation. The continuous bad news at the time was (and continues to be) overwhelming. John wanted to give people a place to go to just get some good news. Many others applauded right along side me. John’s kids did the logo so what’s not to love?!? Adults and kids “tuned in” enthusiastically.
John continued to deliver SGN, and in fact even did a virtual Prom. So good!
Then sentiment quickly shifted when folks heard that John had sold SGN to CBS (as in the news organization). “Sell out” quickly got tweeted, and that was perhaps amongst the most mild of criticism.
But I am here to stand by this dad. I don’t personally see what’s wrong with John selling his innovative idea to an organization that can make it even bigger. He’s an entrepreneur. This is America where it’s ok to earn money and to do so in different kinds of ways. John never said it would be a charitable operation. He’s merely trying to do a good thing and make a living at it. And by the way his industry has been on lock down too.
Like many dads.
I don’t see why that is so bad and I am eager to see what CBS does with it! I say, “Way to go, dad!”
