Band-Aid Skin Tones
Subtle forms of inclusion end up being not so subtle at all. Like crayons that have multiple colors of “flesh.” Like makeup that comes in different shades of skin tone to reflect the range of our world. Even cola that comes in range of colors to represent the world as well.
And now Band-Aids will reflect a range of skin tones so that they can blend with all skin colors. Whatever your skin color. All equal.
May seem subtle, but it’s not. Imagine kids putting on bandages and they match their skin tones! All kinds of skin tone, not just white. Makes them feel like they are an equal part of the world, no matter who they are and no matter their skin color. Yes in a small way but still contributing to equality.
It’s subtle, but it’s powerful. And it does indeed show how brands can help make people grow up feeling noticed, included, and equal.
The brand also announced a donation to Black Lives Matter.
Thank you Band-Aid. What’s your experience? JIM
