"MacArthur Park" #MusicMonday
Back when I had my own agency, every Monday I would post the “song of the week” to give us all a little boost to get the week started. Since music can unite and heal (among other things), I thought I’d bring back that tradition and offer up a song that’s meaningful to me every Monday morning.
#MusicMonday
Now if you read my book “Out and About Dad,” then you know there’s one song I play every time I move into a new home. It’s the first song that those walls get to hear from me.
“MacArthur Park” by Donna Summer. The full suite that includes the title track but also “One of a Kind” and “Heaven Knows.”
For me, the song is about overcoming barriers and moving beyond failures. It’s about picking up the pieces and moving forward, despite the situation. The magic comes in the bridge:
“There’ll be another song for me, and I will sing it. There’ll be another dream for me, someone will bring it.”
Everytime I face a hurdle, overcome an obstacle, or realize that I’ve made a mistake, I pop on this song to help me get through it. And everytime I open up a new home, this song indoctrinates me to it!
Here’s a live version that I think really brings it to life:
If only I could sing like this! What’s your experience? JIM
