"Home" #MusicMonday
I was thinking that this amazing song from Michael Buble was originally going to be appropriate this week because I’m heading back to New York after being away for quite a bit. I’m going home! No matter where I am in the world and no matter where I “live,” I am a New Yorker at heart and always will be. New York is home.
Back when I would travel constantly for work, despite the excitement and accomplishments, I was always always always happy to go home.
As Michael Buble says in his lyric, “I wanna go home.” Amid this pandemic, I wanna go home.
“Another airplane
Another sunny place
I'm lucky I know
But I wanna go home
Mmm, I got to go home
Let me go home
I'm just too far
From where you are
I wanna come home”
But truthfully, after last week’s events in our US Capital, this song is even more meaningful to me. Yes, I wanna go home to New York. But I also wanna go home to what I know is America. I wanna go home.
America has felt like a foreign object lately. One that I cannot relate to. One that isn’t what I know and love. One that isn’t “home” for me.
I long for when we can treat each other with kindness. Understand each other’s differences. Enjoy each other’s uniqueness. Cooperate and collaborate. Embrace diversity and include everyone.
I wanna go home.
“May be surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel all alone
Just wanna go home
Oh, I miss you, you know”
We are in a lonely place right now. “Just wanna go home. Oh, I miss you, you know.”
See you in New York … What’s your experience? JIM
