Word of the Year - Rizz

Every year there are a couple of organizations that name the “word of the year.” Typically, it’s an already overused word that to my ear has already run its course. Not so much this year, as Oxford has named the “word of the year” a word that I have barely ever heard. But maybe that’s just me.

Rizz.

As in “style, charm, attractiveness.” As in “you’ve got rizz.” I honestly hadn’t heard it in use, but of course now I am sure I will.

Merriam-Webster also picked their own “word of the year” … authentic. The dictionary says it means “true to one’s own personality, spirit, character.” It is perhaps one of the most over-used words this year, again at least for me. So much so that I think it’s become one of those words that if you say you are “authentic” then you probably aren’t authentic at all.

But that’s just me. Me being my authentic self :).

But I am going to roll with “rizz” because I think its fun. The word is credited to streamer Kai Cenat although he doesn’t take the credit. Either way, sometimes words just evolve and take a life of their own and I have a feeling that’s the case here.

Know who I think has rizz? Julia Roberts on her current press tour for her new movie. Harry Styles for being, well, Harry Styles (does that mean he’s authentic?!?). And Justin Trudeau. Those three make my rizz list for the year.

And you? What’s your experience? JIM
