TL;DR
We’re keeping today’s post light because quite frankly it’s all I can handle at the moment. If I’ve heard this “phrase” once this week then I’ve heard it a thousand times … TL;DR … too long; didn’t read. You know those long emails or text messages that seem endless. Too long. Didn’t read. Just give me the recap!
When you offer a TL;DR in your writing, you summarize. Hit the main point upfront, and then follow with the details if someone wants to keep reading. I so appreciate the emails that start with the TL;DR headline and then if I need more info I can keep going. It shows a respect for someone’s time and brainspace.
As Hallmark says, “When you care enough to write the very shortest.” Ha!
Or as Mark Twain is famous for saying, “I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead..”
TL:DR shows respect.
It’s kind of my writing style, TBH, as I pointed out in my last book, and as folks have commented on my blog. Sound bites. Quick reads. Consumable content. One concept at a time. TL:DR.
Let’s face it, with all the demands on us all, we are living in a TL;DR world. (and a “Material World,” Madonna) What’s your experience? JIM
