We Lost Quincy Jones, A Music Legend #MusicMonday
I woke up this morning to the news that we lost a music legend. A music genius who spanned decades, genres, talents, and roles across a career that no one comes close to achieving. Many know him for his work with Michael Jackson on the album “Thriller” for sure, but so much music comes before and after that masterpiece. His body of work is un-matched. There will only be one Q.
Quincy also worked with my favorite artist of all time, Donna Summer, on her 1982 self-titled album which created this top 10 hit …
The album also contained a remake of “State of Independence” which featured a large all-star choir, whom many have said was a “trial run” for the forth coming charity single “We Are The World.” Although “State of Independence” was not so big in the U.S., it was a huge international hit (sounds rather global, doesn’t it?!?).
One more song from the album if you will indulge me. While it was never released as a single, in my humble opinion it should have been and in fact it is one of my all time favorite songs from Donna. The composition, the voice, the flow … magical. “The Mystery of Love” is a duet with James Ingram and it’s fabulous. Just listen to the build up! Wow!
RIP, Q. Your legacy will certainly live on in your music. Album after album after album.
What’s your favorite Quincy collaboration? What’s your experience? JIM
