"Wicked" The Movie #MusicMonday
Like so many others, I went to see “Wicked” at the movie theater over the U.S. holiday. It’s the first time I’ve stepped into a movie theater since seeing “A Star Is Born” and hey, that was for Gaga so that was that!
For me, I didn’t go because I’m a mega fan. In fact I have not seen the Broadway Show nor have I read the book. I wanted to see it because I know it’s a cultural phenom and I wanted to see what it was all about in real time.
And I can report that from my perspective the phenom is real.
The production, the acting, the music, the story … it’s all there. Every last morsel. By far one of the best productions I have seen in quite some time, if ever. Yes, it’s that good.
Admittedly, I really didn’t know the music and even the music is real. It’s perfectly suited for the show and the story and actors. Not overdone and not there just to be there. There because the music enhances the story and the acting and the sets and the production. It just all works. (And no I didn’t realize that this was just part one but hey that’s ok because that too is true to the story).
Now since this is a marketing blog and I’m a marketer not a Broadway or movie critic, let’s talk about the marketing partnerships. They too are real. Real compliments to the story line and production.
Monopoly. Lego. Stanley green and pink cups because pink goes good with green. Starbucks pink and green drinks. Of course OPI Wicked nail polish (pink and green).
Click here if you’d like to get a full run down of the major collabs, there are a plenty! This one just might be my favorite …
Pink goes good with green in candles too!
Since this is #MusicMonday, my favorite song from the movie is by far “For Good.” It’s how I feel about my family and friends for sure. Each of us gives something to each other and we are better “for good” as a result. Gets me every time I hear it. Here are the Broadway OGs singing it for reals with all the feels.
If you have not seen the movie, run don’t walk. And engage in the brand collabs bc they are just plain fun.
What’s your experience? JIM
