Small Business Spotlight: "Walls of Honor" Celebrate Surviving 9/11 First Responders in NYC

If you’ve been to many of the pizzerias in New York City, then you’ve seen the celebrity and politician pictures that proudly often hang on the walls. Symbols of pride in the craft of those pizzerias and small business owners in the communities.

Well in honor of this year’s 9/11 Anniversary, the non-profit group Feel Good Foundation worked with many of those pizzerias to temporarily replace those celebrity photos with those of surviving 9/11 first responders to remind us of their ongoing struggles. Those surviving first responders continue to face health issues and many of them continue to perish, in fact the death toll post-9/11 has now exceeded that of those who died that day. So we need to continually support those heroes. These local community members are doing just that.

Take a look at this news report from CBS New York:

What a great way for these small business owners to give back to these local heroes and to show their community support, raising awareness of their ongoing needs. I hope this becomes an annual tradition!

Small businesses have such a unique opportunity to give back and connect in such special ways, and this is such an inspiring and meaningful way. I hope it sparks other ideas for other local small businesses too.
