The Oscars 2019

Every year, like a lot of folks, I look forward to The Oscars for its pop culture, fashion, music, and of course winning. And last night, 2019 gave us all of that, without a host to be found! Although Maya, Tina, and Amy would certainly make great hosts. Hint, hint. Well, it was more of a wink, wink.

We weren’t surprised to see Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper perform their now Oscar-winning song … but I was a bit surprised at how stripped down it was. It made their chemistry shine even more..

From a fashion perspective, JLo wins hands down with Tom Ford.

So let’s talk about the advertising. Walmart was the brand of the night, featuring six stylists in multiple spots getting six movie stars ready. While they were styling their clients, they were also wearing Walmart fashion. The point being that Walmart is the fashion behind the scenes. Walmart’s website features these stylists and lets you shop the look. Great tie-in from tv screen to small screen and great way to continue to promote Walmart as a fashion destination. Plus the brand picked my fav stylist Ilaria Urbanati, who styles Bradley Cooper by the way. I’ve worked with her and she’s fab.

Marriott launched its new rewards program called Bonvoy, bringing some excitement to what many consider cost of entry now. They too came on multiple times during the night, at $2.6 million a pop.

My favorite brand of the night was Rolex. Like Walmart, the brand’s advertising was themed for the night. It was very inspiring! Rolex featured some of the biggest movie makers of our time, in a very cool piece where they talked about their craft in a love letter to future film makers. And a love letter to Rolex too, I might add.

Hope you also enjoyed the big night. What’s your experience? JIM
