"Antibodies" #MusicMonday
Time for another #MusicMonday.
I can remember back in the day when every summer there was one song that really stuck out on the charts and in our minds as the “IT” song of the summer.
The Song of the Summer … the song that you couldn’t get out of your mind and ended up representing all that you were doing that summer. Rolling Stone even did a count down … 1979 was Hot Stuff by Donna Summer (of course if you know me then you know I had to throw that in there) and the #1 Song of the Summer of all time (so far) was in 2018 with “I Like It” by Cardi B.” Here’s what the mag had to say about that collab:
“In the summer of 2018, it was nearly impossible to stand on any street corner in any American city without hearing “I Like It” blasting from the window of a passing car. “I Like It” was where Cardi B really gave it up to her Latin heritage, with Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny and Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin, over a trapped-out sample of Pete Rodriguez’s 1967 boogaloo classic “I Like It Like That.” While Cardi hits the timbale beat like a piñata, she gives the guests room to shine — this has to be the first Number One hit in history to namecheck Celia Cruz, Jimmy Snuka, and Lady Gaga in the same verse.”
Love it!
So what about this year? What about 2020 with all that this year is shaping up to be? Well many are giving “Cousin Greg” (aka real life Nicholas Braun) from the show Succession this year’s title of Song of the Summer with his crowd-sourced tune “Antibodies.” Give it a look and a listen …
I’d vote a yes on this one. First of all, thematically it certainly fits the criteria of Song of the Summer for 2020. Here it is early August in the heat of the summer in the US and here we are worrying about a pandemic that won’t seem to end. Secondly, due to its “work from home” collaborations and sourcing of content, it’s certainly on trend for 2020 as well.
Is it catchy enough to stick? Well you can be the judge of that! As of today, it has over 300k views on YouTube. Proceeds go to Partners in Health and The COPE Program. More info on how to donate here!
And BTW, if you’re a Dunkin’ Perks Member then you get free coffee on Monday with the purchase of a food item. Mix it with #MusicMonday and you’ve got a great start to the week. Then on Friday, as a Dunkin’ Perks Member you can get a free donut with the purchase of a beverage. Gotta love summer!
What’s your favorite Song of the Summer? What’s your experience? JIM
