"Rainbow" #MusicMonday
When I first heard the song “Rainbow,” I was watching a virtual cabaret night from our personal favorite Bobby Egan from New Hope, PA where we used to live. Bobby plays the piano while his guests choose and sing songs. There is some incredible talent that comes shining through, even on video!
One of the performers sang “Rainbow” by Kacey Musgraves, and although I didn’t know the song or the original singer, I instantly melted into the song particularly given the pandemic, the lockdown, and the outcry for racial justice. The song gave me a moment of healing comfort and the lyrics gave me some hope. Here’s the original from Kacey which is now on my playlist!
Kacey says that the song is for anyone carrying weight on their shoulders, and dedicates it to those in the LGBTQ+ community in particular. Hence the “rainbow” I would imagine.
Thank you for that.
“When it rain it pours but you didn't even notice
It ain't rainin' anymore, it's hard to breathe when all you know is
The struggle of staying above, the rising water line
Well the sky is finally open, the rain and wind stopped blowin'
But you're stuck out in the same old storm again
You hold tight to your umbrella, well, darlin' I'm just tryin' to tell ya
That there's always been a rainbow hangin' over your head”
When we get passed all that is happening in 2020, let’s make sure that we notice and celebrate and move on, together. In the meantime, let’s work for change and let’s be each others’ rainbows.
What’s your experience? JIM
