Now ... How Do We Change the World?
I recently overheard someone say something very profound … so profound that it took me awhile to process. It’s been months actually, and now I’m just starting to wrap my head around the comment that I overheard.
We are now starting to see signs of our world coming back. And when I say “our world,” I don’t mean the world … I mean our world. Our individual communities, families, circle of friends, work colleagues. The world we each live in. For many, “our world” is either starting to see signs of activity again or the re-entering phase has begun. Not for everyone but we are seeing light at the end of tunnel.
It feels good: to hug again, to laugh out loud at a dinner party, to go back to the things that once gay us release from the pressures of life.
Having just spent a long holiday weekend doing some of those things, the comment I heard months ago came rushing forward in my head.
“How Do We Change the World versus Just Going Back to Normal?”
Wow. Exactly. “Going back to normal” isn’t really what we want. There were a lot of things that weren’t working back then, pre-pandemic, that many of us would like to see become different when we all re-emerge. It’s not about going back to normal, but instead about re-inventing a world that makes more sense. Where it all works better for everyone. Everyone. Where the joys of life are more frequent for everyone. Everyone.
So as the pressures of the lockdown and the fears for our health and safety subside, let’s not go back to the “normal” pressures of our society and the “normal” fears that came along with them. Let’s change all that.
Let’s not go back to normal. Let’s change the world.
