Biggest Marketing Moments of 2021
What a year …
Those who have been reading my posts for awhile now know that I love my year-end lists. So every year at the end of December I curate my own list of the biggest marketing moments of the year. From #10 to #1. I always say that “marketing is a spectator sport” so we can learn about the best of the best this year. IMHO.
Despite the continued pandemic, we saw a number of brands do some pretty amazing work. From small and cute and to big and impactful. Here goes …
10 … Heinz Hot Dog Pact: This famous hot dog brand solved an age old problem this year.
9 … Extra Gum “For When It’s Time:” Brands started celebrating what could have been the start of the end of the pandemic and brand Extra was one of the first to show us the light.
8 … Chevrolet Holiday 2021: Chevy seemed to win the holiday adverts game this year with an emotional story about a couple and their nostalgic Chevy Impala.
7 … Interflora Asks Why There’s No Flowers on Father’s Day: Exactly.
6 … Elton John and Lil Nas X for Uber Eats: A match made in food delivery heaven.
5 … LEGO Says “Everyone is Awesome” for Pride: Cool new toy from cool creative director at LEGO helped to usher in the most inclusive Pride Month ever.
4 … The New VS Collective: Victoria’s Secret pivoted its “spokesperson” strategy and received perhaps its best response ever.
3 … 50th Anniversary of L’Oreal’s “You’re Worth It:” One of the most impactful marketing taglines of all time turned 50 this year, with more relevance than ever!
2 … Barbie Honors COVIC-19 Heroes: Brand Barbie makes my list almost every year so of course I’m going to count the brand’s new lineup of these fabulous dolls.
1 … Introducing Meta: Facebook’s parent company took on a new name and identity (Meta), linking it to the future of the metaverse. Lots of commentary on this one for sure!
