Unilever Bans "Normal"
No more “normal” …
I love this new initiative called #PositiveBeauty from Unilever, makers of several beauty brands including Dove. As part of the campaign, the company is urging us to ban the word “normal.” I couldn’t agree more …
“Normal” can be such a harsh word when it excludes people. “Normal” can set a standard that doesn’t apply. “Normal” can be used to make people feel “less than.”
As a marketer who has worked in beauty my entire career, I applaud this effort wholeheartedly. As a once single divorced gay father who then married a gay man and raised two children, I say thank you wholeheartedly.
Let’s get rid of the word “normal.” it just isn’t, well, relevant.
