Woman Corp
“The First and Only ‘Woman’ In America With Rights The Government Will Protect”
Just in time for the U.S. midterm elections, the ERA Coalition has launched a “fictional” new company called Woman Corp, created to raise awareness to the fact that corporations have more rights in the U.S. than women do. Here’s a quote from this week’s Forbes article:
“Currently corporations have more rights than women,” said ERA Coalition President and CEO Zakiya Thomas. “The goal of this satirical campaign is to highlight how ridiculous it is that our government will bend over backwards to give corporations what they need. And have even gone so far as to deem them as “natural persons” and continue to give them more and more protections while taking away women's rights. The Supreme Court has expanded rights for corporations while taking away fundamental rights for women and people who can become pregnant."
The company does have a board of directors and also a spokesperson, Gabby Pizzolo from the Netflix show Stranger Things.
Very clever. Very timely. Even though the ERA has still not been ratified into the Constitution, it is inspiring to see the ERA Coalition still operating as a active body to fight for it.
