"I'll Be There For You" #MusicMonday
Just recently we lost the first cast member of the iconic television show “Friends,” Matthew Perry. He passed away scarily young, after years of success with his talents and struggles with his addictions. Sad.
He had been quoted saying that although people will remember him as Chandler on “Friends,” he would actually rather be remembered for the work he did to help other men with their own addictions. So honorable and honest and generous. I salute him today for all of his work in that area.
Thank you, Matthew Perry.
Back in the day, big television shows often had theme songs that became big hits. “I’ll Be There For You” was the theme song from The Rembrandts for “Friends.” It was huge.
The show was a big part of NBC’s Thursday night line up, for what became known as “appointment tv” meaning you literally blocked your plans so you could be home to watch the lineup of shows. Seems odd now with streaming! And if you missed the show one week, you’d literally have to wait for the Summer when the network would do key reruns from the season. So odd now!
As soon as you heard those opening song notes, you knew you were in for some laughs with your “Friends.” The song was a big part of the brand.
RIP, Matthew Perry. Thank you for all you’ve done and now will continue to do with your Foundation. We will miss you.
What’s your experience? JIM
