The Geico Caveman Returns
The Geico “Caveman” is arguably one of the most iconic and enduring advertising campaigns ever created. He was one of the original non-spokespeople! Can you believe it’s been 20 since he hit the scene in 2004! The campaign turned a somewhat unknown brand into a household name, at least to my eye. All because the brand insulted a Caveman and showed him no respect.
Well now he’s back, still confused about this reputation that has been thrust upon him. With a bit of a tease that perhaps there’s even more to come?!?
This is a great example of owning a brand asset. No one in the category (or any category) can touch this positioning, this messaging, this creative. It’s all Geico. Great to see that they are not walking away from it. Now maybe taking a break made the heart grow fonder, which I can understand. But I also understand owning who you are and how you represent. Geico is back to owning it! And don’t forget, there was also that Gecko …
Two massive and iconic campaigns from one brand. An embarrassment of riches. And great targeted messaging.
