I'm Finally Starting My Next Book
This weekend, I started writing my next business book, thanks to my very patient publisher. I was supposed to start it over this past summer, but I kept putting it off and putting it off. I’ve learned that when I’m not ready to write then there’s no point in even trying. The words will just be too hard to come by.
But maybe it’s the new year and the possibilities of it all that has me inspired. Truth be told, last year was a tough professional year for a lot of us. It felt like every day was a fight. It happens. It’s happened before and it’ll happen again. I just can’t write when I’m fighting though it all. All my energy goes into the fight. If the words are going to flow, then I have to be in a good place.
2024, I’m in a good place.
My new book is about Leadership and it’s all about the Lessons Learned in Leadership from people I have observed through the years.
I am constructing the book around quotes … quotes from leaders I have heard about, read about, or were actually said directly to me. Ten quotes from great leaders and ten quotes from not-so-great ones. I hope to make it all very enlightening, from both sides.
I’m working with the publisher to create a unique format to accommodate the concept. The goal is for the reader to choose how they want to consume the chapters, one quote at a time by either starting with the great leaders or starting with the not-so-great leaders, and then simply “flipping” the book to read the other side. In hard copy or e-copy. I want the reader to decide how they want to consume, and can even flip back in forth in rapid succession from quote to quote.
I always say that marketing is a spectator sport, and we can learn by observing each other in the marketplace. Same is true of Leadership … we can learn by observing each other and learning from each other. We can learn from what works and what does not work. The great and the not-so-great. I’ve experienced both sides and have learned equal amounts from both.
Stay tuned. And if you have any Leadership Lessons Learned, please do pass them along.
What’s your experience? JIM
