Twitter Rebrands at "X"
The big news this week is that Twitter got a makeover, or at least a rebranding. The app is now called “X,” which is a brand that Elon Musk has used a few times before in the development of what became PayPal. The brand has big aspirations to really become a big part of our lifestyles, becoming much more integral with how we shop, socialize, communicate, and make payments. Yesterday’s logo switch was evidently just the beginning.
Linda Yaccarino, the new CEO of X, released a statement on Sunday:
“X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.”
Many have referenced that X sounds like it’s trying to be similar to WeChat based out of China.
Big aspirations for sure. I jumped around the app today and it still feels the same so it’ll be interesting to follow and participate as this and other apps like Threads for example try to pave their way through our culture and lives.
