Vans Checkerboard Day

Now here’s a holiday that I can get into…

Creativity. It’s what gets me out of bed each day and fuels my drive to do great work all day. Creativity is what keeps this old dog learning new tricks.

Which is why I have such admiration for the brand Vans and their “Checkerboard Day,” which BTW is today November 21st.

Checkerboard Day is a global celebration of creativity and an acknowledgement of its importance. Here’s a direct quote from the brand:

“Creativity is one of the most important skills for the future. The ability to dream, take chances, and create the things we imagine. These are the skills of entrepreneurs, innovators, and change makers. Children are bork with these exceptional talents, but research shows that over time they begin to lose them.”

Vans has partnered with Imagination.org which is an organization dedicated to fostering creativity and entrepreneurship in children and today will donate $1million USD to the cause. In addition to special edition shoes and an invitation to get involved, Vans also created 66 ways to get more creative. Click here to learn more. If you’re not familiar, the V-66 is the classic Vans checkerboard shoe. Believe it or not, I have a pair or two of my own. Including one the brand did for Pride Month and the celebration of diversity and inclusion.

I for one am inspired. I’m going to check out Imagination.org for the first time myself and see what I can do to continually foster creativity in my world.
