"Grown Up Christmas List" #MusicMonday

My house is in full blown Christmas mode, with our speakers blasting holiday music on repeat. And repeat. And repeat. I’m finding the reboot of seasonal music to be a bit therapeutic for me as we deal with the remaining bits of 2020. A year that most all of us can’t wait to be over.

I have three favorite holiday songs which seem to have additional meaning this year and I’m playing them nearly every day. They bring me joy and calm.

First one is “Grown Up Christmas List.” It seems like nearly everyone has sung this song but I tend to gravitate to the Kelly Clarkson version:

“So here's my lifelong wish
My grown up Christmas list
Not for myself but for a world in need
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, no
This is my grown up Christmas list”

My next shout out is “Where Are You Christmas?” from Faith Hill:

“Where Are You Christmas” is from the movie “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” movie. I feel like COVID-19 is the Grinch this year.

“Where are you Christmas
Why can't I find you
Why have you gone away
Where is the laughter
You used to bring me
Why can't I hear music play”

And then the last pick for this year is from Donna Summer and her “Christmas Spirit.” While I am not personally a religious person, I do honestly enjoy gospel music. And when gospel hits holiday hits pop, then I’m all in. I’m all in on “Christmas Spirit” because it reminds me of the lightness of the holidays and the joy from seeing friends and family. And the lingering feeling of contentment that the holidays can bring.

“Still l long to feel that Christmas spirit in my heart
Yes I long to feel that Christmas spirit in my heart
Now I long to feel that Christmas spirit in my heart”

Thank you Donna, thank you Faith, thank you Kelly … for this incredible music. These incredible gifts that have given me much over the years and certainly this year.

What are you listening to? What’s your experience? JIM
