Bupa: Is It Normal?
We are coming up on World Mental Health Day on October 10th, and I was thinking about how challenged our mental health and wellbeing is right now. Perhaps more than ever. The world is on edge, perhaps more than ever. The workplace is on edge, perhaps more than ever. Family life is on edge, perhaps more than ever. Far worse for some than for others for sure. But collectively we are all dealing with doses of it in one way, shape, or form.
As I was digging into more and more information on World Mental Health Day, I came across this ad from Bupa, a health insurance and healthcare company from the UK. Granted the ad is from 2020, just as the pandemic was taking shape so I’m not even sure if that was a factor at the time of the making of the spot. But the narrative and the messaging struck a chord with me today.
Is it normal? What is normal? Is this normal? Am I normal? Is it normal to feel this way?
So much of our mental wellbeing is centered around feeling and being “normal” but it’s impossible to define exactly what that is. Perhaps more than ever.
Take a look. It actually made me feel better, at least in this moment.
No matter what we are feeling, I think the point is that it is normal to feel exactly that way. Perhaps more than ever.
Just feel it. And share it. And experience it, out loud.
Thank you, Bupa, for sharing it. Perhaps more than ever.
What’s your experience? JIM
