The Opening Dance Sequence for "The Perfect Couple" #FeelingFriday

ICYMI, everyone is buzzing about the Netflix series “The Perfect Couple,” including me. It is great. Maybe not “perfect,” but it is very good series television. I watched it in just a few sittings because it hooks you right in.

But you know what hooked me in even more, right from the very very beginning?!? The opening dance sequence! Take a look …

The opening dance sequence sets a tone for the show that I’m not sure I’ve seen before in a tv series. It makes you sit up and want to know more about the characters and see what makes them so “perfect.” But are they really?!? It gets you feeling something special about this show that you want to keep finding out more. Over and over again.

It hooks you in. Gets you engaged. Gets you to come back. Many have said that instead of skipping the intro at each new episode which is typical behavior, they have put the opening dance sequence on repeat. Repeat!

That got me thinking about brands and their “opening.” Don’t we want the same for brands? Don’t we need an “opening dance sequence” for our brands too?

Brands need to set an initial tone with consumers, they need to hook them right from the start with a compelling “feeling” to connect with them, and then they need to put that on repeat to keep them coming back. It’s not likely going to be a dance sequence, but what could it be?

What’s the special hook? What’s the feeling? What will cause the repeat behavior? That’s where an in-depth knowledge of the target market comes to play, a deep strategic insight, and a lot of creativity.

Let’s get to work! This is the fun part of our craft!

What’s your opening dance sequence? What’s your experience? JIM
