Trend Alert: Espresso Martinis at the Bar and at Home
I love following a good food trend and I especially love it when a food trend becomes a quick food obsession. And it’s so fun watching it flow from micro trend to macro trend to said obsession and then back down again. Think chocolate chip cookies. Cupcakes, and then red velvet cupcakes. Pumpkin spice everything. Wine coolers and then hard seltzers.
And now … espresso martinis.
I was actually sitting at a bar the other day, watching a bartender make one espresso martini after another to which he looked at me and said, “I can’t wait for this trend to be over.” Evidently they are a lot of work to make, coffee bean topping and all. My husband calls them “rabbit turds” sitting on top of coffee foam. Kinda.
Espresso Martinis aren’t just at the local bar anymore … they are now available for purchase pre-made at the liquor store too (see pic above). I recently had a cocktail party at home and while I didn’t buy the pre-made bottle ahead of time I did make a big batch so I could shake them up more quickly on demand.
And there was big demand. My arms got a good workout that day … here’s a recipe if you want to try.
Get them while they are hot (but don’t serve them hot please)! Time will tell on how long this trend will last! Every (relevant) brand is riding it!
